It’ll cure what ails you!
It never fails, as winter settles in and temperatures drop, cold and flu season hits. The sneezing, sniffling, coughing and sore throat seem to hang on forever and over the counter remedies just make you drowsy and taste horrible. What’s a person to do? The answer, is in the old fashioned remedy of the hot toddy.
What is a hot toddy? Generally speaking its a warm drink made with tea, spices, lemon, and honey. Of course, if you really want to kick that cold in the butt, you add some booze to the mix. Hey, if your cold remedy is going to make you drowsy, you might as well enjoy drinking it!
Hot toddies have been used for ages to ease seasonal cold symptoms and there are an infinite number of ways to make them with or without alcohol. I’ve listed my favorite recipe below, but feel free to experiment with whatever combination of teas, spices, booze you like and if you have a favorite recipe, let me know in the comments. Hot Toddy Recipe:
- 1 cup hot water
- 1 bag of orange spice herbal tea
- 2 tbsp honey
- 2 tsp lemon juice
- 2 lemon slices
- 1 stick cinnamon
- 2 oz bourbon
Directions: Steep the tea in hot water 1-2 minutes. Add honey, lemon juice, and bourbon and stir. Garnish with lemon slices and cinnamon stick. Enjoy!
